Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Police then discovered multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report early analysis indicate the liquid was probably human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in association with the event," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the community for information.
A high-ranking official said the incident made him stunned and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
